Need help with my Psychology question – I’m studying for my class.
How might transferability be achieved in a qual research study?
Answer:
Transferability in qualitative research refers to the extent to which the findings of a study can be applied to other contexts or settings.
To achieve transferability in a qualitative research study, the researcher should:
- Use a clear and detailed description of the research methodology, including the research design, data collection methods, and data analysis techniques.
- Ensure that the sample of participants is diverse and representative of the population being studied.
- Use thick descriptions that provide rich and detailed data, including verbatim quotes from participants, which enable readers to understand the context and meaning of the data.
- Use reflexivity to examine the researcher’s assumptions, biases, and preconceptions, and how these may have influenced the research findings.
- Use member checking or peer review to ensure that the findings accurately reflect the participants’ experiences and perspectives.
