Discussion 1: Trustworthiness in Qualitative Research

Transferability in qualitative research refers to the extent to which the findings of a study can be applied to other contexts or settings.

To achieve transferability in a qualitative research study, the researcher should:

1. Use a clear and detailed description of the research methodology, including the research design, data collection methods, and data analysis techniques.
2. Ensure that the sample of participants is diverse and representative of the population being studied.
3. Use thick descriptions that provide rich and detailed data, including verbatim quotes from participants, which enable readers to understand the context and meaning of the data.
4. Use reflexivity to examine the researcher’s assumptions, biases, and preconceptions, and how these may have influenced the research findings.
5. Use member checking or peer review to ensure that the findings accurately reflect the participants’ experiences and perspectives.
