A person who is able to create an inspiring vision of the future and has an ability to motivate and inspire people to be a part of that vision is known as an effective leader. Lee Hsien Loong the third Prime Minister of Singapore was a born leader. Coming from a political family Lee Hsien Loong became interested in the politics at a very early age, and later he became the Prime Minister of Singapore (Gladstone & Pepion, 2016).

The personality traits of Lee helped him in becoming an effective leader. It improved his performance that can be determined through his work record. His integrity shows his characteristic that is his excellent character. Lee has a very persistent nature which is reflected through his forty years of service towards his nation and achieving success in most of his work. Lee is a very adaptable person as demonstrated through his patience and strength that he showed in hard times (Halsall, 2015).

Lee combines the best of all the styles and forms his own leadership style.  Lee displays charisma and the transformation that he has given to the Singapore. All this motivates the followers, and make his vision of progress of Singapore like the future truth. He also follows the servant leadership style as he is a public servant. He always places service before his interests (Gladstone & Pepion, 2016). As a politician one has to keep the needs of the country first or the power can go out of his hand, and Lee is always concerned about his people’s welfare, health, and education. The third leadership style which makes the Lee an effective leader is the participative leadership. Lee always included his party members, experts, cabinet members, and people of Singapore while working.  He takes their suggestion and decides on the best way to pursue a particular job (Leitch & Stead, 2016).

Being a leader and being a successful leader are two different things. Lee posses’ leadership qualities and that are proven by looking at his successful career of 40 years as a politician in the Singapore politics. His biggest achievement is making Singapore the least corrupt country in Asia. Lee has serviced Singapore for forty years and transformed it from just a shipping port with scarce natural resources to world’s one of the safest, richest, and most orderly country. He has always believed that Singapore will have only a Singaporean ruler and to keep his words he planned along with the Malayan Prime Minister to merge the countries Brunei, Singapore, and Malaysia together. This way a federation could be formed and that may end the British Colonial Rule. This tactic worked and Singapore became a free country (Sethuraman & Suresh, 2014).

Lee Hsien Loong always has a vision and to achieve his aim he is able to inspire his team members and motivate them. This is the most important characteristic of an effective leader. Lee has proved himself to be the best leader that Singapore can get by his extraordinary approach towards his goals regarding his country. That makes him a great leader.
