Nurs 8310 Week 11
Assignment: Final Paper: Major Assessment 7: Using an Epidemiological Approach to Critically Analyze a Population Health Problem
Throughout this course, you have been applying an epidemiological approach to analyze a population health problem. In previous weeks, you have developed distinct sections of your paper; it is now time to finalize and submit a cohesive, polished version of work. This paper serves as your Major Assessment for this course and must be uploaded by Day 3of this week.
To prepare:
· Finish incorporating any feedback from the submitted sections of your paper.
To complete:
Write a 12- to 15-page paper that includes the following:
Section 1: The Problem
· A brief outline of the environment you selected (i.e., home, workplace, school)
· A summary of your selected population health problem in terms of person, place, and time, and the magnitude of the problem based on data from appropriate data resources (Reference the data resources you used.)
· Research question/hypothesis
Section 2: Research Methods
· The epidemiologic study design you would use to assess and address your population health problem
· Assessment strategies (i.e., if you were conducting a case-control study, how would you select your cases and controls? Regarding the methods and tools you would use to make these selections, how is it convenient for you as the researcher or as the investigator to use this tool?)
· Summary of the data collection activities (i.e., how you would collect data—online survey, paper/pen, mailing, etc.)
Section 3: The Intervention
· An outline of an intervention you would implement to address the population health problem with your selected population based on the results of the study in Section 2 (Note: If you selected a descriptive study design, you are still required to outline an intervention that might be developed based on future research.)
· A review of the literature that supports this intervention
Section 4: The Impact
· An explanation of the health outcome you would be seeking and the social impact of solving this issue
Section 5: Evaluation
· An evaluation plan based upon the health outcome that you have chosen and your anticipated results
Your written assignments must follow APA guidelines. Be sure to support your work with specific citations from appropriate Learning Resources and additional scholarly sources as appropriate. Refer to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association to ensure that your in- text citations and reference list are correct.
By Day 3
Submit your Major Assessment paper.
Answer:
Section 1: The Problem
Introduction
The environment selected for this paper is the workplace. The focus of this paper is on the population health problem of work-related stress. Work-related stress is a common health problem among employees and is a significant public health issue due to its impact on individuals, organizations, and the economy. This section provides an overview of work-related stress, including person, place, and time, and the magnitude of the problem based on data from appropriate data resources. The section concludes with a research question/hypothesis.
Overview of Work-Related Stress
Work-related stress is defined as the physical and emotional response that occurs when there is a significant imbalance between the demands placed on an employee and the resources available to meet those demands. Work-related stress is a common health problem that affects millions of workers globally. The effects of work-related stress can be significant, including negative impacts on employees’ physical and mental health, job performance, and organizational productivity.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), work-related stress is a leading cause of absenteeism, decreased productivity, and turnover in the workplace. In the United States, work-related stress affects millions of workers each year, resulting in significant economic costs. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) estimates that work-related stress costs U.S. businesses approximately $300 billion annually due to absenteeism, turnover, and reduced productivity.
Research has shown that certain occupations are more likely to experience work-related stress than others. For example, healthcare professionals, first responders, and social workers are more likely to experience work-related stress due to the nature of their work. The prevalence of work-related stress also varies based on demographic factors such as gender, age, and race.
Research Question/Hypothesis
The research question for this paper is: What is the impact of an intervention aimed at reducing work-related stress among employees in a large manufacturing company in the Midwest?
Hypothesis: Implementation of an intervention to reduce work-related stress among employees in a large manufacturing company in the Midwest will lead to a decrease in the number of reported work-related stress cases and improved employee health and well-being.
Section 2: Research Methods
Epidemiologic Study Design
The epidemiologic study design that would be used to assess and address the population health problem of work-related stress is a randomized controlled trial (RCT). RCT is an experimental study design that involves the random allocation of participants to the intervention group or the control group. In an RCT, the intervention is introduced to the intervention group, and the effects of the intervention are compared to the control group, which does not receive the intervention.
Assessment Strategies
If conducting a case-control study, the cases and controls would be selected based on specific criteria. In this study, employees who reported high levels of work-related stress would be identified as cases. Employees who did not report work-related stress would be selected as controls. The methods and tools used to make these selections would include survey tools that measure work-related stress levels and health status.
Data Collection Activities
Data would be collected through an online survey tool that measures work-related stress levels, health status, and employee satisfaction with the intervention. The survey would be administered to all employees in the intervention group and the control group at baseline, 6 months, and 12 months. The survey would be anonymous to encourage honesty in responses.
Section 3: The Intervention
Outline of the Intervention
The intervention that would be implemented to address work-related stress in the workplace is a comprehensive stress management program. The program would be based on the following components:
- Employee education: Employees would receive education on the causes and effects of work-related stress and how to manage stress effectively.
- Workplace modifications: Modifications would be made to the workplace to reduce stressors, such as noise,
