Quality Control Process in Manufacturing Industry

Discuss about the Quality Control Process in Manufacturing Industry.

Introduction

The competition always leads to innovation. It can be difficult to improve without competition in every field. Each manufacturing company tries to maintain the quality of their products. For maintenance of this quality, each manufacturing industry has the special quality control department. The main purpose of this department is monitoring the overall process and maintaining the quality of products or manufactured items. The quality control department consist of skilled manpower and technology for monitoring the process. The quality control department uses different tools and techniques of statistical process control. Australian manufacturing company produces electrical components with diameter 2 cm and weight 5 gram.  The quality control department monitor the overall process for quality check up. The quality control team uses different methods for checking the quality of the products. The team always tries to maintain the process in such a way that the products would meets its specifications and standards of quality.

Research Questions and Hypotheses

Research Questions

For this research study regarding the quality control in the manufacturing industry for the production of electrical equipment, the research questions are summarised as below:

Whether the average diameter of the electrical equipments is 2 cm or not?

Whether the average weight of the electrical equipments is 5 grams or not?

The hypotheses for this research study based on these research questions are developed as below:

Hypotheses

The research hypotheses for this research study for quality control for the process of manufacturing the electrical equipments are given as below:

H1: The average diameter of the electrical equipment is different than 2 cm.

H2: The average weight of the electrical equipment is different than 5 grams.

H3: The process for the diameter of the electrical equipment does not follow the statistical quality control specifications.

H4: The process for the weights of the electrical equipment does not follow the statistical quality control specifications.

Operational definition and Measurements

For this research study, we would use the two variables such as diameter of the electrical equipment and weight of electrical equipment. For these variables we will use the ratio scale of measurements. The unit for the diameter is used as the cm and the unit for the weight is used as gram. The process is said to be in statistical control if the sample means for the selected random sample will lies between the desired specifications or upper and lower specification or control limits. For checking this, we use the Xbar and R chart for checking whether the process is in statistical control or not.

Research Methodology: Data Collection and Analysis

Sampling techniques

For this research study, we would use the random sampling method for data collection. It is important to maintain the quality and specifications of the products. For this purpose, we would collect the data for checking whether the process is in statistical quality control or not. We would use the systematic random sampling for the selection of the random samples. We need more random samples for checking whether the process is in control or not. For this purpose, we will collect the random samples between some intervals of specific time period. We would avoid the biases during the collection of random samples and measuring the diameters and weights. The instrumental biases should be avoided during the process of measurement.

Method of analysis

For this research study regarding the quality control in the manufacturing industry, we need to use different tools and techniques of statistical quality control. We would use descriptive statistics for computation of the mean and standard deviations. For checking whether the process is in statistical control or not, we would use the X-bar and R chart. If all the points or sample means lies between the upper and lower control limit for the process then we would say that the process is in statistical control. It is important that no any chart would be out of control. For checking the hypotheses whether the average diameter is 2cm or not, we would use ‘one-sample t test’. We also use the same test for checking the hypotheses whether the average weight of the electrical equipments is 5grams or not.

Research Process

After developing the problem statement for this research study we would collect the data for checking whether the process is in statistical control or not. For checking this we need to collect the random samples of the electrical equipments. We would collect the random samples from each batch of manufacturing products and we would collect the random samples by using the systematic random sampling. After the collection of data, we would use the statistical tools and techniques for checking the given hypotheses. Also, we would use the X-bar and R control charts for checking whether the process is in statistical control or not.

Expected Research Outcomes

We would expect that the process for the production or manufacturing of the electrical equipments is in statistical controls. The sample means would be lies between the upper control limits and lower control limits for the X-bar and R charts. Also, we would expect that the average diameter of the electrical equipment would be 2cm while the average weight of the electrical equipment would be 5grams.
