Snapshots of Great Leadership
Discuss about the Snapshots of Great Leadership.
Describe the best Leader you have personally known or a favorite leader from history, a novel or a movie?
My one among the best leader known from history is “Abraham Lincoln”. He was a mythical figure that represented American culture and history and was the one who abolished slavery in United States and saved the Union. Lincoln as a leader worked with the combined forces of courage, strength, morality and will that guided Americans through the time of complete social upheaval and civil war (Howell, 2013). Abraham Lincoln is my favourite as he was not only the man of right doings but was also a man of moral ethics. Till date he is considered as an outstanding personality by majority of the American citizens. According to me he was a leader, who possessed the qualities of perseverant, courage, and compassion. He as a leader unlocked the future of America by establishing a collaboration of ideas related to discovery, discipline and courage that inspired others to respond. The nation was undertaken by him under his entirety and protected the nation from the harmful forces by unification of history with respected ethics and expression of spirits.
Explain the style and major achievements of the Leader?
The leadership of Abraham Lincoln was benevolent leadership style. In instances when he faced disagreement among his team members, advisors and with himself, then he use to convey his pint of interest to the team in a form of story so that it will be well understood by all of them and he can attain their cooperation. Lincoln through his skilful a highly holistic leadership uses to virtually disarm his enemies (Burlingame, 2013). The major qualities possessed by him included compassion and kindness collaborated with wisdom. He was regarded as “Father Abraham” as he had demonstrated exclusive quality of strength of character. The most distinctive quality possessed by Lincoln was of telling stories with which he uses to explain his actions to others and influence them for following his leadership.
The national Banking system of America in 1863 was signed as a law under the leadership of Abraham Lincoln. The nationalized banking system created by him provided a strong financial network to United States (Wills, 2013). Reconstruction was planned by Lincoln during the period of war. The moderates were led by him regarding the Reconstruction policy against the radical republicans. He was the man who prepared an action plan for reuniting the nation instead of alienating the South.
Outline the major skills the Leader has demonstrated to be a successful leader?
Abraham Lincoln has a skill of being a patient listener. He always listened to people of having different viewpoints and therefore successfully created an environment in which Cabinet members can freely disagree over an issue without having any fear of retaliation (Wren, 2013).
Lincoln was the leader with the view that “The path of success and ambition is broad enough for two” and he always believed on his ethic and whenever the team achieved any success Lincoln as a true leader shared the credit with all those involved in the achievement of the success.
Lincoln as a leader also had a tendency to provide his team members with many chances for improvement as he was well aware of the fact that he was able to compensate for that weakness. He was a kind of leader who knows how to work as a united team (Hackman, & Johnson, 2013).
Abraham Lincoln had a remarkable ability of communicating the goals of the team to his countrymen. He always talked on the line of simplified concepts and well communicated them to his team while having a strong understanding of the concerns related to the citizens of the country.
Identify the impact of leadership using the Interactional framework of Leader – Follower – Situation model?
The impact of leadership according to the Leader-Follower Situation model is on the outcomes of the team that is the result of the combined efforts made by the leaders, followers and the context. This model shows that how the followers, the context and the leader is affected through the outcomes of the activities performed by the team.
The major point highlighted by the model is that the leadership skills possessed by the leader are dynamic in nature and are enhanced through an ongoing process of skill honing. Thus it is essential for the leader to be flexible enough to deal effectively with the various situations while assessing the outcomes and the context involved (Braun, Peus, Weisweiler, & Frey, 2013, p-279). The leaders must work for continuous investments in their relationships with their followers.
The behavior of leaders and followers can change with the changing situations as each situation has its own set of unique needs and requirements. The main challenge for the leader here is to accurately assess the needs of the followers and the current situation so that he can apply an appropriate style of leadership that can provide the best results for the team.
